Jayne has had an extensive career in charity retail so brings vast experience, knowledge and determination to bring about positive change for the consultancy’s clients.

Her first role was with Oxfam as one of their earliest shop managers, running a traditional shop, a vegetarian café and a charity supermarket before managing a district of 11 shops raising £1m per year.

She then worked with The Children’s Society for 8 years as a Retail Operations Manager, then Head of Retail for 90 shops across the country.

Jayne joined Save The Children UK in 2005 and as Head of Retail was responsible for the staff team, its 3,600 volunteers and 125 charity shops.  For 2 years she also  headed up the UK Community Fundraising operation, maximising the opportunities between CF and Retail as locally led fundraising operations.

Jayne created and led a relationship with Mary Portas, resulting in a BBC series “Mary – Queen of Charity Shops”, the roll-out of a new shop fit, a pop-up shop generating £100K profit in 3 weeks and a permanent charity relationship with Mary.  Mary’s Living & Giving shops remain a significant part of Save The Children’s retail operation today.

Jayne also secured relationships with commercial retailers and won Woman of the Year at the National Everywoman in Retail awards in 2011 – a first for a charity retailer.

Jayne was Executive Director of Retail at YMCA England responsible for 165 shops. She oversaw a healthy increase in profits, driven by a decision to develop staff alongside a strong acquisitions and disposals strategy.

Jayne served on the Board at the Charity Retail Association and regularly gives keynote speeches and seminars at its conferences and events. She worked voluntarily with think-tank DEMOS on their important piece of work, measuring the social value of charity shops. She also served on the Board of Trustees of a children’s hospice.

Jayne created the Charity Retail Consultancy in 2010 to help charities develop and improve their retail and trading offer.

We really loved working with Jayne.  Her insights were brilliant and the shop team were really motivated with her suggestions and ideas.

CARE FOR THE FAMILY, EMRYS JONES DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND OPERATIONS

I found a number of consultancies which had charity shops as part of their client list, but only Jayne who focused 100% on the sector. Not only that, but Jayne was the only person that I spoke to who had actually worked in a charity shop.

Jayne conducted a very efficient review of our shops, including talking with most of our staff, prepared a concise, but comprehensive report, and met with our Board to plan the way forward.

The outcome is that we have a new strategy, a new management structure and a new sense of purpose. We are beating our revenue targets, the staff have a smile on their faces and the charity is very pleased with the contribution that the shops are making to both its finances and the awareness of its work.
